Following a successful pilot project at the end of last season we are pleased to announce that the motorsport chaplaincy team is committed to supporting all our UK events this season.
Many of you met the team at Silverstone last October and there was a very positive response to what chaplaincy has to offer to those of us involved in motorsport. Sports chaplaincy is something that is growing across the country in response to the human welfare needs in sport generally and the recognition that good pastoral and spiritual care makes a difference to those competing.
This initiative is being led by Classic Formula Ford racer and Anglican Priest Revd James Rigby, he previously worked in professional motorsport with many years of experience and now has a heart to support our community for the future. Whether we are at elite level or not we all have things in life that can impact our enjoyment of the sport we love, the chaplaincy team are here to support us when things aren’t going well, to encourage when some motivation is needed and inspire us all to keep looking forward and discover more of what life has to offer.
Over the winter the team has expanded with new members joining, James has also established a partnership with Sports Chaplaincy UK who support chaplains in a whole range of sports including Premier League Football. They provided an excellent training day for the team last month at the Silverstone Innovation Centre (see the group photo!) and will continue to work with us to develop chaplaincy in motorsport. Chaplaincy has a Christian foundation of faith in looking to care for others and can provide spiritual support for those who would like it, however pastoral care is available for everyone whether you have a faith or not.
Whatever your involvement might be during a HSCC race weekend we hope that you are able to benefit from their support this season. The team will have a base in the paddock where you are welcome to pop in for a chat and a hot drink, they will be wearing chaplaincy jackets or hi-vis so should be easy to find! They look forward to meeting you soon and will be at Snetterton this weekend.
